The history

Once upon a time ...

At the beginning of the 18th century, Mayrhofen had a ‘postal expedition’, which was housed in the Gasthof zur Post (today's Posthotel Mayrhofen). The post office was later relocated and converted into a post office.

The ‘Lackner family’ appears in a long line of ancestors as owners of the inn. Towards the end of the 19th century, there are no more records of a male successor to the ‘Lackner family’ and so the ‘Dengg family’ took over the inn.

Since the inn was founded, the name has changed several times, but the word ‘Post’ has been present in all the names. Under the management of the ‘Dengg family’, the name ‘Gasthof zur Post’ was changed to ‘Hotel Alte Post’.

After the ‘Dengg family’ had no successor to continue running the hotel, the ‘Hotel Alte Post’ was sold to the Gager family. The hotel was then renamed ‘Postschlössl’ and remained in the possession of this family for around 10 years.

Since the beginning of 2014, the former ‘Postschlössel’ has become our property and has been called ‘Posthotel Mayrhofen’ ever since. Mr Thaler Hermann and his wife Martina are now the proud owners of the hotel. Today's ‘Posthotel Mayrhofen’ is a hotel garni in the centre of Mayrhofen with its own flair and a lot of history. After the takeover, new life was breathed into the hotel, it literally blossomed, was completely modernised and a sauna area was added.
